Digital Still Life Painting "The Empty Chair" by Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

"The Empty Chair," stylus on tablet, 16x20. During this whole COVID thing, I think a lot about my loved ones who are no longer with me. The line between where I am, dancing my sailor's hornpipe on terra firma, and where they are (god knows) seems a lot more fragile than it did pre-pandemic. What inspired this painting was the feeling that my long-gone loved ones were closer than ever, as if, going about my mundane tasks, I could catch a glimpse of one of them out of the corner of my eye. This painting was created digitally, so prints are available from 8x10 to 32x40.

Original Western Landscape Painting, Wildlife Art, "Narcissus at the Stock Tank" by Artist Nancee Jean, Painter of the American West

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

There's a stock tank and windmill on our little western Colorado ranchero. I've seen some pretty amazing things happen at the stock tank. This hawk spent quite a bit of time around the tank on an early fall day last year. She was up on the windmill, walking the rim of the tank, and then catching a glimpse of her reflection and freaking out. It reminded me of the Greek myth about Narcissus, who gazed at his reflection in a pond with such ardor that the gods turned him into a flower, a narcissus, so he could live at the water's edge forever.

Western Landscape Fine Art Painting,“ODD LIGHT“ by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

Western landscapes are suffused with light; light from different angles, light filtered by particulates, light obscured by quickly moving clouds. When I looked at this landscape I was enamored by the juxtaposition of greenish sky and red rock and soil. Every color seemed to be bouncing off of something else. Oh joy!

Botanical Art, Nature, Contemporary Digital Art “Begonia Maculata” by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

This digital painting required 19,124 strokes and 20 hours to complete. I love painting the big, sexy tropical plants of Hawaii. I love the way these paintings bring the natural world into the homes where they hang. A polka dot plant (begonia maculate) is a thing of beauty. This painting will reproduce beautifully on archival paper, as a canvas wrap, or on metal.

Botanical Art, Nature, Still Life, Contemporary Digital Art “Anthuriums” by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

While traveling I find that creating art on my iPad works well for me. I can create paintings of the things that move me with their singular beauty with the powerful painting applications that are available to artists. While traveling in Kauai, we visited several botanical gardens. I saw these particular anthuriums at Na Aina K'ai Botanical Gardens. They moved me with their seductive, sexy beauty. Because this art is digital, it can be reproduced to suit my clients. It can be replicated on canvas, paper, or metal, and in any size that works for you. I hope the love that I have for the sacred beauty in the natural world translates into my digital art as well as my (what? "manual"?) art!

Botanical Art, Contemporary Digital Art “WHITE ORCHIDS” by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

I love Kauai. When I visit that sacred space I always visit the botanical gardens on the island. The flora is seductive, lavish, colorful, abundant, and spectacular. I saw this lovely cluster of white orchids near the Princeville Botanical Garden.
