Digital Still Life Painting "The Empty Chair" by Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

"The Empty Chair," stylus on tablet, 16x20. During this whole COVID thing, I think a lot about my loved ones who are no longer with me. The line between where I am, dancing my sailor's hornpipe on terra firma, and where they are (god knows) seems a lot more fragile than it did pre-pandemic. What inspired this painting was the feeling that my long-gone loved ones were closer than ever, as if, going about my mundane tasks, I could catch a glimpse of one of them out of the corner of my eye. This painting was created digitally, so prints are available from 8x10 to 32x40.

Botanical Art, Floral Digital Art "Cordyline" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

I completed another digital botanical painting. These beauties take a ton of time and patience, but I love the completed pieces. Statistics: 27,764 strokes, 24 hrs and 20 min, creating a whopping 960 mg file. It's a huge file and can be enlarged or reduced. "Cordyline," (also known as the broad leaved palm lily), 23"x30." Because this piece was created as a digital file at 960 megabytes, it can be enlarged or reduced to a variety of sizes. Substrate options are canvas, archival paper, or metal.

Digital on Collector's Choice: Paper, Metal, or Canvas 30 x 23 x 0

Original Still Life Floral Painting "Under the Surface" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

I belong to local CSA. When we pick up our weekly allotment of produce, sometimes we are allowed to pick a bouquet of flowers from an unruly patch of Colorado wildflowers. I gathered this armful of blooms, brought them home, and placed them in a plain glass vase and put them on my windowsill. I loved them! The star of the show for me, though, was how beautiful and delicate the stems under the water’s surface looked. The background is a series of glazes, all whites, off-whites, beiges, pale pinks, and browns. The flowers are, well… flowers. This painting received an honorable mention in the Artist’s Magazine annual competition: 7800 entries–18 winners. Even though the original sold fairly quickly, the prints are wonderful!

Artist enhanced Giccle Prints are available.

Equine Painting “Scarred But Not Broken” by Painter of the American West

We're all aware of the rotten recipe for how any living creature's spirit gets broken: cruelty, deprivation, and disregard. But some creatures, human and non-human, are molded into something triumphant and magnificent by the very circumstances that shatter the psyche of others. When I painted this beautiful creature, my intent was to communicate the power of Indomitable Spirit; the seed that resides in all of us.

Hawaii, Mountain Landscape,Kauai,Waterfall, Digital Art "WAIMEA CANYON " by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

This digital painting required 18,883 strokes and 14 hours. Waimea Canyon is on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The color of the canyon walls reminds me of the canyon colors of western Colorado, which is my home. The contrast is the climate: the lush foliage and humidity on the island of Kauai is lovely! And this viewpoint of Waimea Canyon is an iconic one.

Original Whimsical Female Figurative Painting "Yellow Lady and Raven" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

Sometimes I paint to satisfy my need to render detailed, decorative elements. I love painting on Yupo because it is completely unforgiving: every brushstroke and mistake shows. I love it because the entire process is apparent. Instead of the viewer seeing merely the end result of many days of work, they can see the whole thing, from underpainting to final strokes.

Folklore, Raven Painting, Totem, Contemporary Art “Two Hearts Beating As One" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

Ravens are a totemic American bird. They figure highly in the folklore of many indigenous people, including the First People of the North American Continent. They're especially important to me. For many years, a pair of ravens have lived on our property. What a privilege it is to watch them go through their annual cycles and observe the differences in their personalities and behaviors as they change with time. I've had many conversations with "my" ravens. Each one of those conversations have been, in my opinion, brilliant. If this painting became yours, I'm sure it would bless you with the love and respect I put into creating it.
